Today we are traveling to the east of the island. Our first stop will be at Salamis Ruins with Roman baths, Gymnasium, and theaters. Who built St. Nicholas Cathedral? What did the Ottomans do when they took over Famagusta from the Venetians? You will learn all about the history while you get to take photos of this beautiful medieval city. Also, you will have a panoramic view of 'Ghost Town' while you listen to the story. We drive to the north coast of the island. Bellapais Monastery will be the next stop. One of the nicest monasteries of the middle east. Kyrenia Castle will be our last stop in this city. How and why was it built? The shipwreck museum dates back to 300BC. So if you have limited time while you are in Cyprus go ahead and book the tour before someone else does.
Salamis Ruins:
Ghost Town: Once it was known as Varosha. The attraction of the tourists with its nightlife and hotels from 1968-1974.
St. Nicholas Cathedral: Built by Lusignans in 1298-1312. It was converted into a Mosque and named Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque after 1571.
Bellapais Monastery: One of the most beautiful gothic types of Monasteries that was built by Lusignans on the slopes of the Kyrenia Mountains.
Kyrenia Castle: A castle that is by the harbor of Kyrenia was built by Byzantine and additions were made by Lusignans, Venetians, Ottoman, and English. There are museums inside and the most interestiing one is the Shipwreck Museum which dates back to a shipwreck that was found dating from 300BC.
